Scrollingo (“we”, “our”, or “us”) provides a mobile application designed to help users reduce distracting app usage and practice language learning.

This Privacy Policy explains what information Scrollingo collects, how it is used, and what choices users have, including how to delete their account and data.

1. Information We Collect

Depending on the features you use, Scrollingo may collect or access:

Account information, such as your email address and basic profile info, when you sign in with Google.
Microphone access, to support speech practice and pronunciation-related features.
App usage and overlay-related permissions on Android, to support app blocking and focus features.
Learning progress and app settings, such as selected languages, reward time, blocked apps, and lesson progress.

2. How We Use Information

We use this information to operate the app’s core features, including:

Creating and managing your account.
Delivering pronunciation and speech-related learning features.
Letting users configure and run app-blocking and focus workflows.
Saving preferences and progress, whether locally on the device or linked to your account.

Scrollingo uses Firebase Authentication with Google Sign-In to let users create an account. We collect your email address and basic profile information provided by Google for this purpose. This is used solely for account management and to sync your learning progress and settings.

4. Microphone Permission

Scrollingo requests microphone permission because some learning features rely on spoken input. Microphone access is used only to support speech and pronunciation features inside the app. Users can deny this permission, but some speech-based features may not work correctly.

5. App Blocking Permissions (Usage Access)

On Android, Scrollingo may request permissions such as overlay access (SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW), App Usage Access (PACKAGE_USAGE_STATS), and battery optimization exemption in order to:

detect when a blocked app is opened in the foreground,
show a blocking screen or interruption layer,
and keep focus-related features working reliably.

Important Data Disclosure for Usage Access: The data accessed through the App Usage Access (Usage Stats API) is processed entirely locally on your device. We use it solely to determine which app is currently open so we can display the educational overlay when appropriate. We do not read the content of other apps, nor do we transmit, store off-device, or share your app usage history with any third parties.

6. Data Storage

Scrollingo stores data both locally on your device and, for signed-in users, associated with your account via Firebase. This may include:

account information (email, profile),
selected language pair,
reward time configuration,
blocked apps configuration,
and lesson or progress data.

We do not sell personal information.

Scrollingo shares data only where necessary to provide core functionality, specifically with:

Firebase / Google, for authentication and data storage.
Platform-level services made available by Android, device manufacturers, or integrated libraries (e.g. for speech recognition).

We do not share personal information with third parties for advertising or marketing purposes.

8. Account and Data Deletion

You can delete your account and associated data at any time:

In-app: Go to Settings > Account > Delete Account. This permanently deletes your account, your learning progress, and your locally stored data.
Without the app installed: Email us at scrollingo.support@gmail.com with the subject “Delete my account” from the email address associated with your account, and we will process your request within 30 days.

Upon deletion, we remove your account information, learning progress, and app settings from our systems. Some minimal information may be retained where required by law or for legitimate business purposes (such as fraud prevention), but will not be used for any other purpose.

9. Children

Scrollingo is not directed specifically to children under the age required by applicable law in their jurisdiction. If this changes in the future, we will update this policy and related app disclosures.

10. Security

We take reasonable steps to protect user data and limit data collection to what is necessary for the app’s functionality. However, no method of storage or transmission is completely secure.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time as Scrollingo evolves, including when new features such as cloud sync or additional integrations are introduced.

When we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date above.
